Redingote Winter Jumpsuit

If you haven’t heard of Redingote Equestrian, you are seriously missing out. Named after the late 18th century concept of a riding coat, the brand is reimagining outerwear for equestrians. After eyeing one of their jumpsuits for over a year, I scored one for a great deal from Tried Equestrian. Here’s five reasons why it’s now my go-to winter piece that I can’t live without.

Snowy Ride in Redingote

1. It’s so easy

Gearing up to head to the barn in the winter can be an event. You have to put so much thought into how to be warm, but not too warm, comfortable, able to move easily. It's a tall order, and not all clothing fits the bill. Luckily, the Redingote jumpsuit makes the process easy. It's sized to fit over a standard riding outfit, so you can just get put on your normal breeches/leggings and shirt. Then just zip the Redingote over the top, and you're good to go!

2. It’s so warm

I have worn this jumpsuit in all weather, from mild 40s to snowy and icy single digits and it hasn't failed me yet. With room underneath to add a few layers you can bulk up if you want, but it's not necessary. And if you start to get a little too warm, there are vents under the arm to help cool you off without exposing you entirely.

3. It requires fewer layers

When it comes to winter layers for the barn do you ever feel like Randy from A Christmas Story saying "I can't put my arms down"? You can feel like an overstuffed sausage with all those layers on, making it hard to actually ride or care for your horse. The Redingote jumpsuit totally fixes this problem. It's plenty warm enough for just breeches and a sweater underneath. Or, if the temps really plummet, I sometimes add thermals or a vest as well. So much less bulky than multiple leggings, shirts, sweaters, and coats!

4. I can ride in it

I never thought riding in what is essentially a winter snowsuit would be comfortable, but Redingote proved me wrong. The jumpsuit is not bulky like your parent's 80s ski gear, and it's thoughtfully made by equestrians who know what you need in the saddle. I personally love riding outside, and with my Redingote I can continue to make use of the outdoor ring all year!

5. I can go barn to street in 5 seconds flat

If, like me, you keep the jumpsuit on the whole time you're at the barn, you are guaranteed to be clean and fresh underneath. So it's as easy as unzipping and stepping out and you can be seen in public without getting those weird looks, or people averting their nose at the smell. I've worn everything from casual jeans to more fancy dresses under my Redingote (because you never know when you need to make a pit stop at the barn!) and been able to go directly to other appointments afterwards, no changing necessary.

Since I scored my jumpsuit used it's one of the older original designs. But the latest iterations have even more features and thoughtful details. Plus, there's more on offer then just one-piece jumpsuits! Though I highly recommend you give the jumpsuit a try. I promise it will be the addition to your barn wardrobe you never knew you needed.

Stay Cozy, and Happy Riding!
